LODGINGS

Tourismus trifft Sport

Have you ever seen a ski jumping competition live, standing in the crowds by the jump and shouting encouragement to coax a few more meters out of the ski jumpers? Competitive sport up‑close – oh yes, we’ve got plenty of that in Oberwiesenthal, and in all seasons, too!

Always wanted to watch the biathletes standing at the shooting range and focusing on hitting five tiny targets from a distance of 50 meters? Or perhaps you’re even keen to try it for yourself and feel just like famous biathlete Denise Herrmann? You can do all that and more here. The WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal e. V. winter sports club runs a guest biathlon. You’ll find the dates here. If you’re looking for a special experience for a celebration or a corporate event, WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal e. V. will be happy to provide you with a tailored quote. Please send your enquiry by email to info@wsc-erzgebirge.de

Away from biathlon, you can enjoy the natural surroundings of the Erzgebirge as you explore the 2020 Junior World Ski Championships cross‑country skiing tracks in the Sparkassen-Skiarena.

Want to find out more about winter sports on the Fichtelberg and visit our state‑of‑the‑art sports facilities? Then we recommend our guided hike On the Trail of Winter Sports. The tour takes you around our ski jumping complex with its seven jumps, then along the summer toboggan track to the Skiarena at an altitude of roughly 1,100 meters, and finally back to Oberwiesenthal via the historical remains of the former luge track. You might catch a glimpse of our athletes training on the ski jump slope or our other facilities.

If you’d rather take off on your own to explore our beautiful health resort, we can recommend our graded hiking routes for health and well-being. Eight different circular trails ranging from 3.5 kilometers to over 21 kilometers allow you to discover the tourist highlights of the Fichtelberg and Keilberg region on foot. All of the tours are named after our successful winter sports athletes and naturally also take in a couple of the training facilities or competition venues. Hiking maps showing all eight routes are available free of charge from the visitor information center.

You can also admire most of the Olympic medals and trophies won by Oberwiesenthal’s world‑class athletes such as Ulrich Wehling, Jens Weißflog and Sylke Otto in our museum in the Wiesenthaler K3. This modern building houses the visitor information center, a library and a museum and is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 t0 12 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. Drop by and get to know our successful winter sports athletes.
