Lacework

Right in, cross left–lacework is an old tradition in the Erzgebirge and is still alive today. The beginnings of lacework in the Erzgebirge can be found in 1561. From then on, lacework developed to a fixed component of the economy. In 1846, there were around 50,000 lace workers in the Saxon Erzgebirge. The handcraft was originally transmitted by the lace workers themselves. Schools for lace working developed later, where children were taught the manual dexterity and the techniques. Even today, there is great interest in this old technique. In Oberwiesenthal itself, there are two ladies’ and children’s groups that meet regularly to do lacework.

Stop by one of our lace workshops and be amazed at the dexterity of our lace workers.

Wiesenthal Lace Workshop

The Oberwiesenthal Lace Workshop is an important meeting place for lovers of tradition and those interested. Here you can even try your own hand at the old Erzgebirge handcrafts. Course registration can only be accepted in advance.

Other offerings such as city tours, lacework demonstrations or touring the lights during Advent can also be arranged on consultation with Ms. Lautner, the mistress of lacework.
