Fichtelberg

At 1,215 m, Fichtelberg is the highest mountain in eastern Germany. Around 750 m south west lies the Kleine Fichtelberg, along with the Keilberg on the Czech side of the border, and these heights form the most important winter sports centre in the Erzgebirge.

The peak of the Ficthelberg has become an important destination because it provides the best view of the highest city in Germany and the Obererzgebirge when the weather is good. From a good distance off, one can already see the panorama of the Fichtelberg and clearly see the Fichtelberghaus. The Fichtelberghaus with its observation tower is a popular rest stop and overnight spot for tourists.

The Friedensglocke and the weather station on the Fichtelberg Plateau are also well worth seeing. On Sundays and holidays, especially, the sound of the Friedensglocke is another highlight for visitors to the peak.

The easiest option for getting to the Fichtelberg is to take the Fichtelberg suspension railway or the four-seater ski lift up. But you can also drive your own car all the way to the peak via the Bundesstraße 95 and Fichtelbergstraße.
