Woodworking is anchored in the Erzgebirge as in no other region in Germany. The woodwork of the Erzgebirge is the oldest handcraft in the region. Even in the resort of Oberwiesenthal, the love of handcrafts and artisanship has very deep roots. With patience and a love of detail, the woodworkers of Oberwiesenthal create pyramids, “Räuchermännchen” [small, handcarved figures with pipes], candle arches and other products.
